TUESDAY SEPT 9TH @ 6:30 PM DOE: A PRAYER FOR CERVIDAE, BY KATHRYN EDDY
Join guest host, artist, activist & animist, Kathryn Eddy for an immersive performance & ritual honoring her ongoing project, Doe: A Prayer for Cervidae.
Kathryn is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, drawing, collage, photography, sculpture, and immersive sound installation. Her practice centers on complex relationships between humans and non-human animals. Grounded in ecofeminism and kinship with the wild, Eddys’s art resists objectification and honors interspecies empathy. She lives and works between New Hope, Pennsylvania and Minturn, Colorado.
Eddy’s art dwells in what she calls presence/absence: the ways animals haunt us through what is left behind - the trace, the relic, the ghost image. This sensibility threads her practice with a sense of grief, but also of possibility. To stand in the silence of the forest, to touch the sculptured form of a stone Doe, to listen to the bleeding of voices interwoven across species - these are acts of attunement to a world where animals and humans live entangled lives.
Her work is not a lament alone, but a form of witness, holding space for the wild in a time of ecological unraveling. In honoring deer, coyotes, and other more-than-human kin, Eddy calls us back to reverence, back to the possibility of relationship, back to. what might be described as a prayer: not for human salvation, but for the enduring presence of the wild alongside us.
We will begin the evening with a grounding meditation to arrive in the space, surrounded by a gorgeous altar featuring Kathryn’s sculptural deer talismans.
This is an immersive group experience where we will be taking part in ritual & collectively blessing the sculptural talismans with protective energy.
Delight in the storytelling of the inspiration behind the project, & create your own individual sigil, or protective symbol.
Tea & cookies will be provided. Please bring along your favorite mug, a bottle of water & maybe a journal. We will be seated on the earth for our ritual. Pillows will be provided, but feel free to bring along an extra pillow, favorite meditation cushion or bolster. If sitting on the Earth will be uncomfortable for you in anyway, please let us know ahead of time, we can help accomodate!
