FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22ND, AUTUMN EQUINOX FULL DAY RETREAT
Join Jocelyn Laferriere, The Belden Witch, & Abbie Turner from Seed & Soul for a full day retreat filled with meditation, history & lore of the Autumn Equinox, yoga, hiking, nourishing lunch, natural plant dyeing class, & sound healing.
This event will take place on the day of the Equinox, Friday September 22nd from 10 AM - 5 PM.
The morning will start off with a meditation & herbal tea at The Belden Witch to ground your energy & prepare for this nourishing day ahead!
The day will start with a gentle hour long yoga class led by Jocelyn, where we will tune into the body & the mind. The class will be a blend of mindful Vinyasa and slow energy based movement. This is an all-levels class that truly means all levels. With options for modifications, no yoga experience is necessary. Come as you are.
Post yoga we will hike from The Belden Witch shop up Grouse Creek Trail, a short walking distance from our front door. An accessible hike with gorgeous views of the Minturn Cliffs. A small portion of the hike will include a sensory meditation paired with a traditional Buddhist Walking meditation.
We will head back to the shop for a nourishing lunch. Featuring seasonally inspired fare, all dietary needs will be met. With options for gluten free, vegan, etc. Crystal infused filtered water, herbal tea, and sparkling water with optional seasonal herbal elixirs to add in! Without ruining the surprise of the exact menu items, think seasonal salad, warm spiced curry, and not to mention a sweet treat for dessert!
Following lunch, Abbie will lead a wonderful creative class on the art of bundle dyeing. Students will learn the basics of bundle dyeing and create their own unique 100% silk scarf (24” X 24”) to take home. This can be used as a wearable piece or altar cloth!
We will explore with extracting color from flowers, leaves, food scraps and even bugs! Students will learn how to shift the PH of the dyes which unlocks several different colors from each individual dye ingredient, it’s a fun experimental style of art!
Bundle dyeing is perfect for anyone looking to create abstract textile art with natural items. No experience necessary, this class is open to all levels. Attendees are encouraged to gather colorful flowers/plants the week prior to explore extracting pigment from nature, but not necessary. These finished pieces are so unique & gorgeous! You are in for a treat!
While students are finishing up their pieces, Jocelyn will lead a talk on what the Autumn Equinox is, and how it plays into the Pagan Wheel of the Year. We will discuss and learn altar correspondences, ritual ideas, and learn history & lore of the holiday. Attendees are encouraged to bring along a journal to jot down any info or ideas. You will receive a handful of journal prompts that correlate with this seasonal shift! There is so much magic in transition, and this is the perfect time of year to honor those shifts.
As our art pieces are drying, we will move into a closing meditation and sound healing session led by Jocelyn. We will gather amongst fur rugs, blankets, & pillows for ultimate cozy. Melt into a relaxed position for an hour long nourishing sound bath of quartz crystal singing bowls.
Attendees will leave will a full heart, a full belly, and a beautifully handcrafted piece to take home. Think of this as the ultimate day of self care within community. We cannot wait to hold space for this event! Movement, nature, self care and tapping into your creative side, what more could you ask for?!
